Meet Cedric Grandberry, one of our Level III Controls Engineers based out of the Memphis office. We are honored to have him as part of the LSI family and excited to see him take a lead role for one of our major client’s large PLC5 obsolescence projects. He has a great attitude and always has a smile on his face. Three words to describe Cedric: loyal, methodical, and family-man. Read our latest interview below.
How long have you been with LSI?
I’ve been with LSI since June of 2018.
What is your role at LSI?
I’m a Level III Controls Engineer, and I am currently the technical and software lead on one of LSI’s large Logistics and Package Handling projects in Memphis.
Where did you go to college?
I attended The University of Memphis and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology.
What industries have you been involved in?
Food and Beverage, Brewing, Pharmaceutical, and Logistics and Package Handling.
What is your area of expertise?
Before I joined LSI, I worked on the client side of projects, which helped me in my approach to projects now as a Systems Integrator engineer. That experience has also helped me excel in communication with both the client and our team, keeping the projects moving and on schedule while listening to what the client needs. On the technical side, I’m most familiar with Rockwell Automation products, especially PLC conversions and HMI software coding. I also have experience with Kuka Robots.
What platforms are you familiar with?
Rockwell Automation ControlLogix, PlantPAx, FactoryTalk Batch, Allen Bradley Hardware, Wonderware Intouch, Kuka Robotics, and BluePrint Robotics
What has been your favorite project at LSI?
My favorite project has been working on a large obsolescence project for one of the world’s largest freight companies, where we are upgrading their PLC5s to ControlLogix.
What is your proudest moment at LSI?
Being able to lead the above-mentioned project and being several months ahead of schedule.
What sets LSI apart as an employer?
Our employees are very good at sharing past experiences with different platforms/systems. Being able to draw on this collective experience saves our clients time and money because we can solve problems more quickly. Our engineers also learn faster when supported by others who have already worked on the system.

How has LSI helped you in your career development?
Being put on projects that help develop my strengths and help me improve as an engineer. It’s awesome to be able to ask questions of someone on your team, knowing that they have probably had the same issue and are not afraid to share the information.
What advice do you have for prospective LSI candidates?
Do not be intimidated by the wealth of knowledge on the LSI team. Everyone wants to see you win.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I like to spend my free time with my family and my church family. I also like to spend my free time playing competitive games like cornhole, horseshoes, or spades.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
The Caribbean Islands
Your favorite sports team?
Dallas Cowboys, Memphis Tigers, and the Los Angeles Lakers – I’m a Lebron James fan.

Any random facts about yourself that you could share with us?
I’m the Chairman of the Deacon Board at my church. I’ve also owned a trucking company.
