Describe your current role and experience at LSI.
I support projects at any level or capacity, depending on the need. I am called on for VFD and Motion support. I also support the work focused on Machine Safety. Over the last 17 years, LSI has given me the opportunity to grow, learn, and pursue the career goals I set for myself.
Where did you go to college?
Jackson State Community College and the University of Memphis
What industries have you been involved in?
Food & Beverage, Steel, Paper, Chemical, and Material Handling
Tell us about a project success story that you are proud of.
I managed a project for a local industry that manufactures the chemicals used in wood preservatives. The scope was to remove and replace the outdated DCS with ControlLogix hardware. A new PLC program for each processor and HMI application was created for the plant. This was done when Rockwell Automation’s PlantPAx was very new to everyone. Everyone was nervous when construction began. After a few days of construction, power was restored, and I/O checks began. The plant ran a test batch two days ahead of schedule and went into full production a day later. Excellent communication with the Plant Engineer and a team effort made this a very successful project.
What do you think is unique about LSI?
LSI values its employees but also understands how important their families are. LSI has always been willing to help a project team negotiate the unexpected availability issues that arise from a family need.
How have you grown professionally since joining LSI?
Early on, I tried to learn enough about many different applications so that I could be found useful on any project. Over the years, I have built on that foundation and continued my technical growth. I have become confident and comfortable talking with clients. Honesty is always the best policy, even when it doesn’t align with the schedule.
What advice do you have for aspiring engineers?
Be willing to do whatever it takes. Give yourself an evaluation often and set goals for growth. Be well-versed across platforms so that you can always offer support to a project of any type.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
Sanibel Island Florida.
Do you have any hobbies or random facts about yourself that you could share with us?
I have two teenage sons and live on a small farm. I enjoy hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. I also coach flag football.
