How long have you been with LSI?
3.5 years
Describe your current role and experience at LSI.
I am a Level II Controls Engineer at LSI, specializing in programming and implementing control systems. I’ve been part of the programming efforts for two sitewide upgrades to Rockwell Automation’s PlantPAx DCS platform and worked on a few smaller DeltaV projects. Currently, I’m working on a multifaceted project for a large food and beverage client that involves programming, HMI development, P&ID updates, inventory management, and working with the on-site electricians.
Where did you go to college?
Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN.
What industries have you been involved in?
During college, I worked in logistics and later interned as a process engineer at a specialty chemical company. Since joining LSI, I’ve worked on projects in both the food and beverage and chemical industries.
Tell us about a project success story that you are proud of.
We completed a two-year project to upgrade a specialty chemical company’s DCS from Yokogawa to PlantPAx. It was a long project that was more of an endurance run with a few sprints in the middle. I am very proud of the team that completed the project and of my role as one of the main contributors to the software. (More info on this project here.)
What do you think is unique about LSI?
I have only worked at two places, LSI and a chemical manufacturing facility so I may not be the best judge. But I believe how we create teams and shift people around as needed is unique. It’s remarkable how much input we, as individuals, have in this process.
How have you grown professionally since joining LSI?
Since joining LSI, I have gone from a college graduate with some process knowledge to a full-fledged controls engineer. My coworkers and bosses have helped me create career goals and have supported me as I have worked towards them.
What advice do you have for aspiring engineers?
Learn to use your resources effectively. Figuring it out can be fun, but don’t spend hours figuring it out yourself when someone you know can explain it to you in 5 minutes. Also, remember you can and should use manuals or reference texts.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
It’s a tie between Orange Beach, AL (for the beach) and Spring River, AR (for trout fishing).
Do you have any hobbies or random facts about yourself that you could share with us?
My husband and I have a blind 13-year-old kitty named Ladonna, and she owns the house. I enjoy video games (COD, Persona5, Baldur’s Gate 3). I also like to fish (brim, trout, bass, deep sea). I played flute in my high school marching band and now play bass guitar in my church praise band.
